How do you feel?

Tue Oct 30, 2007, 12:53 PM
  • Mood: Pride
  • Listening to: Country
  • Reading: Articles about rednecks
  • Playing: With a timing belt
If anyone who reads this could give me response, I have to write a paper about a definition of a word with both denotations and connotations. My word is redneck. I would really apprecitate it if you could let me know how you feel about the word and what things you associate with it. Thanks a ton guys!

The Redneck stereotypes I've heard are typically:

Long hair or mullet males.

Females with southern accents.

Lack of education.

Lives in trailer park or broken shack home.

Flies the confederate flag.

NASCAR is life.

Bad teeth. (poor hygiene)

Drives old pick up trucks.

Lots of kids

Generally poor on finances.

Lives in countryside only.

Now in reality this is not the case (except a small few).

Dictionary :
Redneck >noun N. Amer. informal, derogatory a working-class white person from the southern US, especially a politically conservative one.

Historically: I think it was a term for farmers (I believe Southern, but dont hold me to that) They were called "Rednecks" because of the sunburn from working in the field. Its been a while since that history class, so I may be off, but if you research it you should find the exact origins to the word.
